11:48 pm - Is this thing on?
Apparently Yet Another Death of LJ Predicted, film at eleven. I'm already on Insanejournal, so I used [info]antennapedia's Python LJ migration tool to copy everything over. (It can also just download/backup, instead of copying your journal to another server.) It's small, it's fast, and it worksforme. Here's hoping better to have it and not need it.

(Hell, I'm considering registering on BuffyForums just because other writers are there for whom I have immense regard. Of course I have to do it anyway if I want to pimp FtVS as a virtual series. Of course to qualify for consideration, I have to finish a fifth episode. Speaking of...)

Bits and pieces of the current episode keep coming, but I've been slacking like mad. Call it a holiday slump, or just concentrating too much on trying to stay warm. (Also, this.) I'm getting fantastic help from [info]sam_arkand, and if you aren't reading his All She Can Be (Agatha Putnam. USMC. Slayer), which was just updated for the benefit of you, the reader, then hie thee hence and drop and give me twenty!

What's that about a holiday slump? My fandom may be gay, but I don't believe it's dead...

9:39 am - ow
I didn't go to my sister's Christmas party last night because I slammed my knee into the corner of my desk and I could barely put any weight on it. Not quite as bad this morning, but it feels like I won't be doing any deep knee bends for a while. Sam, I'll reply to your email sometime today in between popping aspirins and trying to clean this sty that is my room...

12:30 pm - Birthday greetings
Happiest of birthdays to [info]mabus101! May your life be full of peace and progress.

Been doing a little more scribbling here and there, but tonight is going to be taken up by getting down at my sister's annual Christmas party. Wondering if that gorgeous woman who looked like one of my old unrequited loves is gonna be there again like last time.

I finally read Y: The Last Man. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I think I'm giving it to my stepdad for Christmas.

Also, I feel better about my writing.

11:33 pm - Mild venting, with appreciation
When you give me dictation to type, it really helps if you NOT CONTRADICT YOURSELF IN THE SAME SENTENCE. I don't get paid enough to have patience to deal with that nonsense.

And my eczema is flaring up again, and I'm freezing.

But I have food in the fridge, and a roof over my head. Things could be worse.

Also, SHE just got back after being gone all day. I have tandoori pork loin marinating in the fridge, to cook up tomorrow. And what's tandoori without khira raita?

Now I'm already hankering for biryani, which I haven't had in a few years. Indian food is like that: Addictive in the extreme. I can even have low-carb aloo gobi -- just make it gobi with no aloo.

So: Tapes tomorrow, first thing. Plow through, let someone else deal with mistakes (as long as they're not mine). Then reply to all the awesome emails I've been getting, then back to writing.

(And yay, I got out and over to visit friends I hadn't seen in months and I showed them Let The Right One In which they absolutely loved. Next time might be Porco Rosso, which is Miyazaki's least fantastic movie, most grounded in realism, and of all his films it's my absolute favorite.)

10:56 am - Faith the Vampire Slayer: 1x05 (teaser)
The cold is officially here. Was below freezing with snow piling up, before it warmed just enough to turn to rain. At least it isn't sleet. (We have Eskimo words for snow.!)

Probably won't have this finished by end of year, but I wanted to get the teaser out before I got swamped with work this week.

So, to recap:

1:50 am - Faith the Vampire Slayer 1x04: "Iron Horses" (conclusion)
"If elected mayor, my first act will be to kill the whole lot of you, and burn your town to cinders!"
- Groundskeeper Willie

Ended up "explaining" a bit less than planned. But I like the mystery, and it wouldn't need much more to make it work onscreen (IMO).

Action! Adventure! Romance! If you're not too discerning, you'll find them all, in this week's exciting conclusion of...

...wait, what's this show called again?

Dexter last night was VERY enjoyable, and made me especially glad I try so hard to avoid all spoilers. No idea what's coming on TSCC tonight. Got some work to attend to, but as soon as it's done, you can bet I'll be jumping into the final act of "Iron Horses" feet first.

11:36 am - Faith the Vampire Slayer 1x04: "Iron Horses" (Act 3)
Police are like vampires. They shouldn't be invited into your home... Vampires are polite; they're smooth. But once they get in, the door closes. Havoc ensues.
- Jamarhl Crawford, Chairman, New Black Panther Party

Cryptic? Certainly. Derivative? Oh mais oui. Asspull or semantics? And who is that man behind the curtain?

But she's sturdy. Serviceable.

She'll get you where you're going.

7:30 pm - The daily linkage
For a few days, I wasn't getting any real work done. I *was* making crazy madcap progress on fic. Today I buckled down and did the paying gig, then helped haul nearly five hundred pounds of salt. Come home, make a fresh pot of coffee...and sit down to a nice piping hot writer's block. I'll share these links, goes the thinking, they've been sitting here in these tabs almost a week now and we wouldn't want them going stale, feeling crowded...

On the verge of finishing 2nd to last scene of act 3. Need to relax and remember I've still got a week to stay on schedule.

9:37 am - Mini recaps
Dexter and TSCC were quite good this week. Spoilers for "Easy As Pie" and "Mr. Ferguson Is Ill Today":

broyay and royay )

Got a good start on act 3. Two scenes down, five to go. Unfortunately I have tapes to type and bags of salt to move. Cold still becoming less tolerable with each passing year. The hard part might be keeping up the daily exercise during the winter months, when I'm a lot more stiff and sore. "We'll see..."

Also, happy foamy birthday to the generous and talented [info]beer_good_foamy. Praise him with great praise!

Finally: If you loved the movie, you'll probably love the Flash game. 'Tis the season and all :)

11:29 am - Faith the Vampire Slayer 1x04: "Iron Horses" (Act 2)
I am not one of those weak-spirited, sappy Americans who want to be liked by all the people around them. I don't care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is: What are they in a position to do about it?
- William S. Burroughs

Cut text from this (lower resolution Flash in original Swedish and English), which looks totally spooky ninja badass.

I console myself by rationalizing it as a way to cut down on the amount of semi-useless journal entries. No doubt you can already see the flaw in this plan.

7:50 pm - Favorite fics from [info]germaine_pet
Wow, you'd think I was trying to procrastinate or something. But since I *have* actually finally started writing act 2:

Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

why don't we just wait here a little while...see what happens. )

BTW: Cut text from this. Watched it for Halloween last night on Hulu.

If you are reading this, post a picture of a cat in your journal. (Your cat, a lolcat, or someone else's cat. But preferably yours, if possible.)

Vet called and said he's much perkier, better temperature and eating well. They took out the catheter but they'll keep him on IV fluids the rest of the weekend, then take his blood levels to check for permanent kidney damage. Many thanks for all your kind thoughts and words.

Kitty went to the vet and they want to keep him for the weekend. He had enough energy to resist when I got him into the carrier, but he's still obviously in a lot of pain.

Any prayer, positive vibes, &c., are most appreciated.

Right. I don't buy it.

There are some things that if you say them to my face, I won't bother telling you to take it back. I'll just punch your ass out, and not lose a moment's sleep over it.

Unrelated thought: I can't count the number of online quizzes I've started to take, then quit in disgust at some point because I don't agree with any of the "choices."

Actually, that explains a lot.

Heading out to watch Dexter with Dad. For dinner.

Also, to continue the Dexterish trend of D-words: Went disc golfing (for the second time).
